Since then I've never come across a sentence that was better with "very" than without.
This applies to other imprecise adverbs like "extremely" or "quite."

The word "basically"? Example:
Basically, I am from Kerala. Basically, I am an electronics engineer. I am working in Bangalore as a show-shine boy.
Or, maybe that's an Indianism?
